The widespread, longstanding and escalating acts of anti-Asian bias, xenophobia and harassment culminated in the murders of eight people, six of whom were of Asian descent, in Atlanta last week.
As American trial lawyers who support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and as lawyers from 40 countries throughout the world, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers is a devoted proponent of humanity, equality and justice.
We find that the ongoing verbal and physical attacks against people of Asian descent nationally, as well as the specific recent violence against elderly Asian Americans in California, are reprehensible and have no place in a civil society.
We raise our voice clearly to denounce all forms of racism, whether explicit or implicit, conscious or unconscious, individual or institutional.
We stand against bigotry as well as the inattention and inaction that have allowed for tacit acceptance of the intolerable.
We call for effective action in ending all manner of hate speech and violence against people of Asian descent.
