We steadfastly support lawyers who refuse to compromise their oath and obligation to apply the law equally and fairly, and without regard for political favor. This is a cornerstone of the Rule of Law.
Yesterday interim U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Danielle Sassoon and other Department of Justice officials resigned when the Executive Branch instructed them to dismiss a criminal corruption case they considered strong on the merits.
The Executive Branch has also fired virtually all prosecutors who successfully discharged their duties in the cases against individuals involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The Executive Branch’s firings of faithful and committed public servant lawyers for enforcing the law at the U.S. Department of Justice and the F.B.I are ongoing.
The International Academy of Trial Lawyers supports these lawyers, and others who courageously protect and promote the Rule of Law, even at great cost to their own livelihoods. We will continue to speak up and speak out against attacks on the Rule of Law.
